An Analog Fall Part II - Among the Pines - 11.5.25

Hi Friends-

This fall, I’ve been trying to stay a little more analog—less phone, more presence. I even put together a small “analog fall bag” that comes with me on outings: a real camera, a deck of cards, a journal, and a pen. The idea is simple—make it easier to unplug, notice the world, and connect with the people right in front of me.

Over the weekend, my son and I went on a little date to one of our favorite spots, Revival. We brought a deck of cards, and I vowed to keep my phone in my coat pocket. We played war, laughed a lot, then ended up at a local arcade playing old-school games—the ones with the clunky buttons and sticky floors. We talked about how video games at home can feel isolating, but out at an arcade, it’s social and fun. It all just felt… right.

We wrapped up the weekend with a true analog night—watching Rookie of the Year on real TV (commercials and all), making dinner, and just being together after the Halloween chaos. It was the cozy, connected kind of evening that reminds me why I’m craving this slower rhythm in the first place.

As we head toward the holidays, I’m hoping to carry that same spirit—more simple moments, more intention, and less pressure to do it all.

01. your favorite journal (or maybe one you don’t mind losing) / 02. a good pen to go with said favorite (or least favorite) journal / 03. I love this pencil bag that I can wrap around my journal so I don’t lose any pens / 04. one of my favorite tote bags from this wonderful local company / 05. a deck of playing cards / 06. a good beanie to keep your head warm on these dreamy, chilly autumn days / 07. a camera that isn’t your phone! it’s becoming one of my favorite ways to capture memories

Something I love about putting together this analog fall bag is that these are all things I already own, so I love being able reach for things I have around the house that don’t necessarily require me to buy everything new. I’ve also been throwing a few other things in this bag, including the book series “The Tales of Sasha” that we’ve been reading together as a family. Sleeping Queens is also one of our favorite games to play together, so I like throwing that in my bag as well! Whatever little traditions you hold dear, a game, a book, a sketch pad, a disposable camera, anything that adds to spending quality time with those you love the most, reach for it and to your fall bag.
