Hi friends—
We’re officially in October! I hope the change in season & the invitation into a slower pace feels soft and welcoming. As you could probably gather from the title of this post, I wanted to share more about sustainability & how we practice that at Old Pine. I feel lucky to live in a place that consistently fills me with awe and inspiration, so I feel a responsibility to protect the land I live on. One of the ways in which I do this is through the choices I make within Old Pine like how we source, produce, & package our candles as well as steps you can take at the end of your candles’ life to prevent waste.
TRANSPARENCY
All of our candles are vegan & made with—
-
100% paraben-free, clean-burning American-grown soy wax
-
Cotton, lead-free wicks
-
High-quality phthalate-free fragrance and essential oils that fall within California Proposition 65 standards
-
Recyclable glass vessels
Product & packaging waste reduction—
-
We’re committed to using leftover wax from regular candle production
-
All of our packaging & shipping supplies are sourced from a Colorado-based company, Eco-Enclose
-
We collaborate with local stockists to offer a jar collection program which trades credit toward candles in exchange for cleaned out old jars.
-
JAR CLEAN OUT
The jars we use are 100% recyclable, but you do have to properly clean your container before you can recycle! Here’s an easy way you can do this—
-
Place the candle on an electric or stovetop griddle set to the lowest temperature & allow the remaining wax to melt.
-
Carefully pour out and dispose of the melted wax or reuse it. Be careful. It will be hot! And never pour wax down the drain.
-
Pop out the glued down wick with a fork.
-
Wipe your jar out with an old rag or t-shirt.
- Throw it in the recycle bin!
*Something to note: make sure not to leave your jars unattended as you warm them! If they get too hot, they could crack and break.
